Family Arrive Safe and Sound in Sapporo

Hi all - well, I saw T-chan and L-kun off at the airport on Wednesday evening here in Adelaide, and then had a pretty awful 24+ hour wait before they arrived (via Hong Kong and Osaka) into Sapporo. Thankfully all went well, and they were able to make it without too many dramas... but went straight to bed on getting home (after a long hot bath).

I'll give an update later tonight.

  1. Very glad to hear.
I do not expect much trouble, but I hope everything goes well with you all.

  2. So glad they arrived safely. That is a tough flight! It sometimes amazes me what we are willing to go through to get home. I know it is hard for you to be away from them right now. But try to relax and enjoy your time, too. I'm sure they will be enjoying their time here. (but missing you, of course!) :-)

  3. Thanks all. Turns out L-kun is still full of energy and was settling in VERY well to life in Sapporo (3rd time around). T-chan is very tired, but had a reasonable sleep in (but still has lot of catching up to do). T-chan's still very happy to be home with her parents... even considering all that's happened. Family is family.

It's very cold in Sapporo now - T-chan wasn't expecting it to be this cold at this stage in the year. L-kun spent 1.5 hours playing in the snow - which he loves.

The only sad thing is to think of all those people struggling in NE Honshu right now under these cold conditions.

  4. Gald to hear the travel went well. My wife and kids were planning to go to Japan in June but her hometown being only 120km from the Fukushima Daiichi plant has thrown those plans out the window it looks like. Too close for comfort to be sending family to.

  5. I can fully understand the hesitation... being away from Japan it's hard to get a good perspective of what's actually happening on the ground. And even if you have a good view of what's happening, it's very difficult to make well founded judgements.

Good luck with your own plans. If you've still got the tickets, I'd hold off on making a decision until later when the dust settles (if you can).

  7. It was a huge relief when I heard from them - but to be honest, my real relief will be once we've made it through the Tokyo phase of our trip (which is still fluid now)... and more long-term, once Japan finally turns the corner and starts to rebuild.
